    • As a lover of mysteries, magic, and old bookshops, I had to take a few deep breaths to calm my excitement when I found out about Crime and Poetry, the first book in the brand new Magical Bookshopcozy mystery series by Amanda Flowers. It combines those three things I love. But did it live up to my expectations? With the exception of a few cons, the answer is yes.I'll get the cons out of the way first. Now, this is a cozy mystery, and with that you're going to get a few Hallmark Channel cliches. T [...]

    • I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book, the first in a new magical mystery series. CRIME AND POETRY was absolutely delightful, and one of the best cozy mysteries I’ve read. The book begins with Violet Waverly frantically running back to her hometown of Cascade Springs, New York, after a twelve-year absence. Her sly Grandma Daisy claimed to be at death’s door, but it was all a ruse to get Violet to come home and take over the family’s bookstore. Well, before Violet can go storming ba [...]

    • Books that help you solve a murder, a magical and mystical tree and bookshop with a sweet Grandma. Water that has magical powers. The setting is Niagara Falls but Crime and Poetry to me felt like a place more charming and mysterious and like a land of fantasy. This series was way more than I expected, I had this series and author on my TBR for a little while and i'm so glad I finally read it. Amanda's imagination is pure brilliance. The plot was well written and amazing.

    • Dollycas’s ThoughtsAs a fan of Amanda Flower’s other series I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. As she didn’t disappoint! I devoured this book!Violet Waverly is working on her doctorate in literature in Chicago when her Grandma Daisy asks her to come back to Cascade Springs, near Niagara Falls. She tells her the doctor said she didn’t have much time. Violet rushes home but her grandmother wasn’t sick. She has another secret she has to tell. Violet isn’t happy but before s [...]

    • Violet Waverly forced to come back to her home town only to found that she's been tricked by her grandma. Daisy, her grandma, is a lovely woman who owns a bookstore, and claimed that in her store, the books will choose its owner. Violet clearly thinks that her Grandma must be losing her mind, when Daisy asked her to moved back to her hometown. When she was there, she met a nice man who wants to buy books, Benedict. Strange things happens when suddenly, a book fall from the shelf and hits Benedic [...]

    • What a wonderful cozy mystery! I just hope that Ms Flower sticks with it. (I'm still a little sore that she abandoned her first series with librarian India Hayes after only TWO books!) This mystery takes place in one of those wonderfully quirky small towns that are so common in cozy mysteries with a magical bookstore that wants its next caretaker to come back home from Chicago. The bookstore is complete with a 200 year old birch tree in the center of the house, a talking crow with an attitude, a [...]

    • This is a new series by Amanda Flower, and let me start by saying that it is fantastic! Ms. Flower is a superb writer, and it shows throughout this book. I am not sure any review I write will do justice to how great this book really is. How can you go wrong with a Magical bookstore, where the books choose you, a very special tuxedo cat, and a hilarious crow who loves to talk? This book has it all, a great mystery, a bit of suspense, and a lot of laugh out loud moments. We start with Violet getti [...]

    • Cozy mysteries are my guilty pleasure reads, and there are some smartly written ones out there. These little books you can curl up with and read with a cup of cocoa.Crime and Poetry is the first book in the new "Magical Bookshop Mystery" series. Violet Waverly returns home to the quaint village of Cascade Springs, NY to help Grandma Daisy run her magical store, "Charming Books" - where books literally fly off the shelves, lol! Violet must clear Daisy's name when the body of a dead man is found c [...]

    • This is one big disappointment, the blurb was promissing but the result was aweful. When Violet recieved a call from her dying gran'ma, she immediately left Chicago to her home town (or village).Once there, she discovers a more than healthy Gran'ma Daizy, still managing "Charming books" a hell of a bookshop that is way from ordinary.Vi gets really angry and decides to return to Chicago the next day, but Chicago can wait, the same morning, Vi discovers -on her gran'ma's driveway- the body of Bened [...]

    • A decent cozy-mystery. 3.5Violet Waverly left her hometown under rather bad circumstances and vowed never to come back. However after her grandmother Daisy (and only living relative) called her from her deathbed, she came back to the last place she wanted to ever be. Imagine how angry she is to find that Daisy, may have overstated her condition just a bit. In fact she's just fine, and it was all a ruse to get her back in town and take over the family business. Charming books a magical bookstore [...]

    • I really wanted to like this book, and I really didn't like this book. By the end, I felt genuinely sorry for the heroine, and I wanted nothing more than for her to get back in her car, go back to Chicago, and never, ever talk to anyone in her small town again - including, possibly, her own grandmother, the only kin she had left. The book opens with Violet rush home to visit her dying grandmother, after a self-imposed exile of 12 years. Her grandmother is in perfect health and it quickly becomes [...]

    • Crime And Poetry is the first book in the A Magical Bookshop Mystery series.A very interesting and fun new series from Amanda Flower.Violet Waverly has made an emergency trip back to Cascade Springs after recently receiving from her Grandma Daisy saying her death was imminent. But when she arrives her grandma appears to be in good health. Violet threatens to leave the next morning, but spends the at grandma bookstore, Charming Books. When Benedict Raisin, a carriage driver, comes to look for a b [...]

    • I was looking for a new cozy to start and all of them weren't up to my taste. I won this book in a Book Giveaway from Berkley Publishing Group, and I am so happy that I won it. I am in love with this new series. I loved all the characters in the book. Quirky and fun. The humor in this book gives you a smile but isn't downright silly. That is why I gave up on some of the other mysteries. I'm in love with the magical town of Cascade Springs, NY, I'm ready to move there and I'm in love with Emerso [...]

    • A promising start to a new series! This cozy includes a magical bookstore where the books choose you; and a resident crow that talks. A murder, along with past secrets and sins, lead to a whodunit that had me guessing right up to the end. I cannot wait for book two!

    • This book was a real surprise for me I'd thought that the book was about (view spoiler)[witches selling grimoires along with maybe potions or other magical accoutrements. Instead it's about a shop that tells you things through the books it pushes on the reader.(hide spoiler)]I thought it was a novel concept, well done by the author. I'll be reading book 2 of the series very soon.

    • Crime and Poetry is the debut book in Magical Bookshop series penned by Agatha Award-nominated author, Amanda Flower, who is renowned for writing an Amish Mystery series as Isabella Allan. I typically have very ambivalent feelings related to cozy mysteries featuring magic or the supernatural as some have been superbly written and others have been anything but. In Crime and Poetry Amanda Flowers delivers one on the superb end of the scale, truly amazing! Poetry of Emily Dickinson is interspersed [...]

    • What a great new series by Amanda Flower. Interesting cast of characters, Violet the granddaughter, Daisy the grandmother, Emerson the cat, Faulkner the crow and a magical bookstore. Violet receives an urgent call from her grandmother Daisy that she needs to come home because Daisy is very ill. Violet, jumps in her car and goes to her grandmothers aid in a town she has not been back to in twelve years because of an incident that made her flee Cascade Springs. Violet arrives to find grandma Daisy [...]

    • A very good start to an enchanting new para-cozy series. I was very intrigued when I first heard about CRIME AND POETRY. I already know author Amanda Flower is a marvelous writer, but I was curious to see how she handled a cozy with a paranormal element. She did so most admirably. The premise of a magical bookstore where the book picks the reader is a fascinating one. While interesting to read about, I think I’ll stick with bookstores where I chose the book, not the other way around. I dread t [...]

    • Brought back to her ancestral town under false pretenses, Violet Waverly rushes into her grandmother Daisy’s bookstore to find her nowhere near her deathbed and even further from remorseful for using such pretext to get her back. Charming Books is located in the old Victorian that housed Waverly’s for 200 years. A house filled with memories, magic books, a live birch tree, 2 stories tall, and a talking crow, dubbed Faulkner. Three generations of women ran the store, keeping the secret of wha [...]

    • This is a Only Review! Meaning, this review will not be posted on 'Books for Christian Girls'. “It was charming. It was perfect. It was the last place on planet Earth I wanted to be.”I wasn't so sure about a book/series about a magical bookshop, but I was willing to try it since I've enjoyed the author's Christian fiction books. Well, this one didn't have any Christian content per say, but it was very clean. This was written in the first person point-of-view of our main character, Viole [...]

    • I'd been pretty eager to get at this one for a while, but sometimes those TBR piles take some time to reach the top of. Such was the case with this one. I read Assaulting Caramel by Amanda Flower a couple of months ago and loved it, and had been trying to get to this one since then. I'm glad I finally did! This was my first foray into paranormal cozy mysteries. It wasn't overly paranormal, just a bit of magic involved. And that magic involved books, which is probably the very best kind. I don't t [...]

    • A magical bookstore charming books and the dead body shows up I didn't like the book. The writing was way too simple, with a lot of repeating and explanation. The characters were not particularly likable or funny or inspirational. I just couldn't get my head around anyone in this book, they never came to life for me. The mystery itself kept me guessing but too little happened and some things were just a bit convenient to ring trueHowever, I must conclude that cozy mystery is not my prefered genr [...]

    • Read for #Book1Cozies ClubI really enjoyed this one! The magical elements were kept to a minimum in this installment, but I do look forward to hopefully seeing more of that in future installments of this series. The things I have been cringing from in cozies I've read recently did not pop up in this story, which was much appreciated. I had no idea who the culprit was until pretty close to the end of the story. All in all a very enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more by this author.

    • Rather a charming cozy mystery involving the poetry of Emily Dickenson, a bookshop in a small town near Niagara Falls and a winsome main character. Nice escapist reading, apparently the first of a series, so I’ll look for more

    • Crime and Poetry by Amanda Flower is the first book in the new cozy mystery series titled A Magical Bookshop Mystery series. Violet Waverly rushes home to Cascade Springs, New York when her grandmother, Daisy calls her and states she is dying. Violet arrives to find Grandma Daisy working and very well! It was a ruse (a very effective one) to get Violet home. Violet has not returned home since she left when she was seventeen. It is time for Violet to take her place as the new Caretaker at Charmin [...]

    • Violet Waverly is busy working on her dissertation in Chicago, but not too busy to rush to her grandmother’s side when a call lets her know the woman is gravely ill. But when she arrives in in her hometown of Cascade Springs, she finds out her Grandmother Daisy is just fine. She just needs Violet to realize her destiny is in her hometown, running Charming Books. The bookstore isn’t just any book store, it’s a place where the book chooses the reader. Before Violet can go back to Chicago a man [...]

    • The concept of a bookshop being magical is not a big step from reality for me, as I consider them magical places already. :) Amanda Flower's new Magical Bookshop Mystery series takes it a step further, creating an enchanted bookshop where the books choose the reader. What else could you expect from a bookshop that has a tree growing inside it? How cool is that??!!The basics: Violet Waverly rushes back to her hometown believing her grandmother is ill, only to discover her grandmother just wants h [...]

    • This is a wonderful new series by Amanda Flower and this book will be on my list of most favorite books. Amanda Flower has created a magical world that draws you in and captivates with each turn of the page. The characters are vibrant and full of life, the reader is given a sense of who they really are. This story begins when Violet rushes home to Cascade Springs to be with her ailing grandmother, Daisy. Much to Violet's shock, Grandma Daisy is fine and not sick at all. Grandma Daisy explains it [...]

    • If you like your cozy mysteries with a side of magic and humor then Crime and Poetry is the book for you. Amanda Flower and her dynamic duo team of "editors" have penned a well-written mystery that will have you laughing as you keep wondering "whodunit".I enjoy Amanda Flower's quirky sense of humor and love how it comes through in her characters. Some of the things that happen to these people will have you laughing out loud and thinking how it could happen to you at the same time. Violet was eas [...]

    • When Violet Waverly arrives in Cascade Springs, New York, she finds that her grandmother isn’t sick like she’d been told. Instead, her grandmother needs to tell her some family secrets involving the old bookstore that she runs. Violet isn’t interested in learning about them, however, and plans to leave the next morning. Only in the morning, her grandmother’s beau is found strangled. With her grandmother a suspect, Violet must stick around to figure out what happened, and she will get som [...]
